Congressman Al Green (D-TX) has once again stirred the pot by introducing articles of impeachment against former President Donald J. Trump, this time alleging an abuse of power for declaring war on Iran without congressional approval.Green’s move is framed as a defense of American democracy, but it’s hard to ignore the glaring hypocrisy in this sudden constitutional fervor. When Barack Obama dropped 26,172 bombs across seven countries over eight years without a single new war vote from Congress, the Left hailed it as “nuanced foreign policy.” Where was the outrage then?
In his press release, Green boldly claims, “Today, I am introducing an article of impeachment with the help of grassroots freedom fighters, to impeach and remove President Donald J. Trump from office to protect American democracy from entrenching authoritarianism.” Yet, this sanctimonious stance rings hollow when one recalls the deafening silence from Democrats during Obama’s tenure. How many Democrats raised their voices against Obama as he unleashed military action in Libya, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria? The answer: a pitiful handful, if any, dared to challenge the precedent-setting bombardment.
Green further asserts, “President Trump has not only violated his oath of office, he has also disregarded the separation of powers necessary to maintain the independence of our three branches of government.” Jessica Denson of 14thNow adds fuel to the fire, decrying Trump’s actions as “perhaps his most dangerous violation by illegally declaring war on Iran.” But let’s not forget that Obama’s drone wars, which killed hundreds of civilians, were conveniently overlooked by the same crowd now clutching their pearls over constitutional breaches. Constitutional attorney Bruce Fein notes Trump’s defiance of the War Powers Resolution, yet the same resolution was toothless under Obama’s expansive executive orders.
The irony is palpable. Green insists, “We must uphold and protect our Constitution from being dismantled by an authoritarian president who seeks unchecked power,” while John Bonifaz of Free Speech for People chimes in, “Donald Trump is not a king. He does not have the power to take the nation into war.” Fair point—except the Constitution seemed to take a backseat when Obama dragged the nation into multiple conflicts without congressional consent. This selective memory is underscored by the fact that Green’s latest impeachment article, backed by over 700,000 signatures at impeachtrumpagain.org, conveniently ignores the Left’s complicity in past executive overreach.
Critics argue this impeachment push is less about principle and more about political vendettas, especially since Trump is no longer in office. The “Constitution” appears to matter to Democrats only when it suits their narrative—particularly when Trump is the one defending America against perceived threats. Until the Left reckons with its own history of turning a blind eye to Obama’s military escapades, Green’s latest crusade risks being dismissed as partisan posturing rather than a genuine defense of democratic norm
Green is ridiculous, and I’m continually amazed at the left’s ability to gather crowds for nutcases - race baiters and justice haters like “Jasmine”, Al, etc.
Embarrassing that he has been our rep for years! What a joke!
