Harris County in Texas was founded on December 22, 1836 and officially organized on March 10, 1837. As of 2024 it serves approximately 5.0 million residents. In the early 1970s its population was estimated at about 2,028,700. The adopted general fund budget for 2025 is about $2.67 billion, it was $300 million in 1973.
