Harris County voters will be asked to approve a $2.5 billion bond issue from the Harris Health System to fund the rebuilding and upgrading of several hospital district facilities, including an expansion of Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital.
an expansion of LBJ Hospital, including the addition of a new Level I-capable trauma center, to open in 2028;
renovation of the existing LBJ Hospital;
the addition and renovation of Harris Health clinics across the county;
the renovation of Ben Taub Hospital.
Many Constituents do not seem to be aware that you can VOTE NO for the $2.5 billion dollar bond proposal.
From my personal point of view, Dr. Esmael Porsa is nothing but a yes man to the higher-ups. I have been notified that nurses at Ben Taub have not received raises in nearly two years, and the hospital is operating on a skeleton staff. What is so staggering is, the county’s health system has reserves which are just collecting interest in the banks- so why does the county need a $2.5 billion dollar bond? We know the politicians in power are only doing this to enrich their friends in the real estate and construction industry.
Commissioners had many questions about how the bond would be used prior to approving it for the ballot, and one of those was to find out which projects would be prioritized should they come to fruition. Porsa refused to answer as to which precinct locations the projects were planned.
During the last budget hearings, Porsa was caught on video with crocodile tears claiming there “were no rainy day funds for the hospital” and that the county MUST raise the taxes or the hospital would suffer….
Isn’t it interesting that PORSA WAS BROUGHT ON RIGHT WHEN COVID HAPPENED? Almost like how Diane Trautment “got sick” and resigned.
Then Barbie Robinson was also brought on during the COVID regime change….
And with the amount of money hospitals received as a result of the COVID ridiculousness why would they need an additional 2.5 Billion? and who are the residents of Harris County they are needing to serve? we should know where and how our tax dollars are being spent. It is our money! Thank you Marissa for speaking out!
