Congressman Brandon Gill Announces Intention to File Articles of Impeachment against Judge Who Blocked Trump's E.O. Invoking Alien Enemies Act
Congressman Brandon Gill has announced his intention to file articles of impeachment against U.S. District Judge James Boasberg. This follows Boasberg’s recent ruling to issue a 14-day pause on the Trump administration’s efforts to deport Venezuelan illegal immigrants under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, a law invoked by President Trump targeting members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. Gill, a Republican congressman, appears to view Boasberg’s decision as judicial overreach. The impeachment effort is part of a conservative wave of actions against federal judges who have blocked Trump administration policies, though such impeachment attempts historically face significant hurdles to success. Gill has stated he plans to file these articles this week.
AG Bondi responded to Federal Judge Boasberg blocking Trump EO to export TDA gang members back to Venezuela: “Tonight, a DC trial judge supported Tren de Aragua terrorists over the safety of Americans. TdA is represented by the ACLU. This order disregards well-established authority regarding President Trump’s power, and it puts the public and law enforcement at risk. The Department of Justice is undeterred in its efforts to work with the White House, the Department of Homeland Security, and all of our partners to stop this invasion and Make America Safe
It is worth nothing, federal Judges can only be removed through impeachment by Congress. The House of Representatives initiates the process by voting to impeach (a simple majority is needed), and then the Senate holds a trial. A two-thirds majority in the Senate is required to convict and remove the judge. This is rare-only 15 federal judges have been impeached in U.S. history, with 8 convicted.
Perhaps they could stay at Judge Boasberg’s house while we await his final decision
Brandon Gill is someone to watch. He has been impressive in his short tenure!
