Governor Greg Abbott of Texas announced today that over one million ineligible voters have been removed from the state's voter rolls since the signing of Senate Bill 1 into law in 2021. This initiative was part of an effort to enhance election integrity, targeting individuals who were either noncitizens, deceased, had moved out of state, or were otherwise ineligible to vote.
Noncitizens: Over 6,500 noncitizens were removed, with 1,930 of them having a voting history.
Deceased Voters: Over 457,000 individuals who had passed away were purged from the rolls.
Moved Out of State or Address Changes: This includes over 134,000 who confirmed they had moved and over 65,000 who failed to respond to address confirmation notices.
covers over 6,000 voters with felony convictions, and over 19,000 who requested cancellation of their registration.
The question many are wondering here, if over one million voters have been purged from our voter rolls since the signing of SB-1 in 2021 — how many illegal votes have been placed in elections before they were purged? In many counties, there were razor thin margins from wins. Also, elections were taking sometimes over a week to several days to announce who the winner was for Criminal Court Judges and Commissioner seats.
Senate Bill 1 was designed to create uniform statewide voting hours, maintain and expand voting access for registered voters that need assistance, prohibits drive-through voting, and enhances transparency by authorizing poll watchers to observe more aspects of the election process. The bill also bans the distribution of unsolicited applications for mail-in ballots and gives voters with a defective mail-in ballot the opportunity to correct the defect.

To note, the announcement comes on the heels of the Attorney Generals office launching an investigation into reports of organizations that may be illegally registering noncitizens to vote. click here to read about the investigation
An important question from a reader- Are they saying they removed them off the suspense list and removed them completely? The biggest issue that I see is that Jane Nelson’s office only checks 5-10% of voter applications. Every single one should be checked to make sure they are legal voters. Our election administrator has talked to me about this issue several times. Anyone can register to vote and they have a 90-95% chance of getting their voter card even if they are not eligible.
It's not hard to find out who voted. I've obtained that info myself from county clerks.
From the report, it's clear some ineligible voters did vote. And it's clear some non-citizens voted.
As a minimum, the violators should be confronted by election law enforcement with a warning- do not let this happen again, or you will face going to jail.
