Harris County Allocates Over $1 Million for Immigrant Legal Services, Including Funding to BakerRipley Amid Budget Concernse
On October 16, 2025, the Harris County Commissioners Court approved over $1 million in funding for the Immigrant Legal Services Fund, established in 2020 to enhance due process in the federal immigration system. The decision, passed in a 4-1vote along party lines with Democrats in favor, directs funds to several nonprofits providing immigration-related legal aid. Among the recipients is BakerRipley, a Houston-based nonprofit focused on community services, alongside the Galveston-Houston Immigrant Representation Project (GHIRP), Justice for All Immigrants, and the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES).
