Update: The Harris County’s Attorney Office has responded to my FOIA request regarding the 2020 Presidential Election shortfall, and appealed to the Attorney Generals office for an ‘opinion’ citing government code 552.021 “if, under the specific circumstances pertaining to the employee or officer, disclosure of the information would subject the employee or officer to a substantial threat of physical harm”
First off, the 2020 Presidential was held at NRG stadium due to “COVID” so the security protocols should be different for the 2024 Presidential Election. That explanation should shoot down the argument the Harris County Attorney’s office made of “concerns for safety of the constables”
The County refused to address the unaccounted $22 million missing from the 2020 Election line-item costs.
The County could have redacted workers names.
When a FOIA is appealed to the AG for an opinion, it can take up to 45 days for an opinion- Could they possibly be buying time?
The Harris County’s Attorney’s office is anything but partial to partisan politics. They have been party to suing the governor over trans children, the EPA over “environmental racism”, and claimed that SB-1 was “voter suppression”
The optics of the County Attorney appealing a line-item cost of the 2020 Presidential Election appears extremely damming. Nor does it help that the Harris County’s Elections Department refuses to discuss the matter on the phone and have been giving me the runaround regarding the missing $22 million unaccounted for in the 2020 Election.
