Democratic congressional hopeful Isaiah Martin was arrested during a protest at the Texas State Capitol in Austin. The arrest occurred on July 24, 2025, during a public hearing on mid-decade redistricting, where Martin, a candidate for Texas’ 18th Congressional District, was speaking out against alleged illegal gerrymandering linked to Governor Greg Abbott and former President Donald Trump. According to Travis County records and posts found on twitter, Martin faces misdemeanor charges including resisting arrest, criminal trespass, and disrupting a meeting or procession. Video evidence shared on social media shows him being forcibly taken to the ground by authorities

Martin, a 26-year-old former senior advisor to the late Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, has been actively campaigning for the November 4, 2025, special election to fill the vacant 18th District seat following the death of Rep. Sylvester Turner. His arrest has sparked varied reactions online, with some supporters praising his boldness in confronting gerrymandering, while critics question his campaign’s financial controversies, including a lawsuit over unpaid fees. He remains in custody as of this morning, with further details pending as the situation develops.
