Houston District Attorney Ogg Goes on Fox News to Announce She is Seeking the Death Penalty For 12-year-old Alleged Murderers of Jocelyn Nungaray
Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg has announced her intention to seek the death penalty for Johan Jose Martinez-Rangel and Franklin Pena, two Venezuelan nationals accused in the murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray. The decision to pursue capital punishment was made following the evidence that the suspects allegedly kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and murdered Nungaray in June 2024. The DA's office has filed official notice with the judge and provided notice to both defendants and their attorneys. This move comes after the suspects were indicted on capital murder charges, with the crime involving the abduction, assault, and strangulation of the young girl whose body was found under a bridge in Houston. Ogg has stated that the decision to seek the death penalty is based on the strength of the evidence and the nature of the crime, emphasizing the message that regardless of one's status in the country, such heinous acts will face severe consequences.
It is worth mentioning that DA Ogg only have two weeks left in her term as District Attorney. Does she plan on pursuing the charges on her way out of office? Or could this be political grandstanding?
