Mayor Turner and Commissioner Rodney Ellis continue their pursuit of disarming their residents with a new Gun Buyback program which is part of Turner’s $53 million One Safe Houston initiative that began in early February to combat the rise in crime the city saw over the past two years. Apparently, our cities politicians don’t seem to think that people are most likely not going to give up their guns with skyrocketing crime and murder rates due to the covert defunding of the police the Democrat Commissioners and County Judge have been up to over the past two years. Reminder, in July 2021 the Democrat majority pulled $20 million from the constable’s rollover funds, and only approved 18% of the law enforcement requests for the budget this year.
According to the program’s flyer, a $50 gift card will be given for a nonfunctioning firearm; $100 for rifles or shotguns; $150 for handguns; and $200 for an automatic rifle. The gift cards are subject to availability, the flyer said. I’m not sure if Commissioner Ellis and Mayor Turner are aware of the going rate for AR’s, but from the comments I received from Twitter informing Houstonians of the Gun Buyback Program, they seemed none too pleased.
I love when the government offers to use taxpayer’s money to buy back guns. Nothing like paying the the commies to take your firearms and give you your money back.
Question: Who is in charge of the gift cards which are being distributed???
