The former Mayor of Houston is once again making headlines considering running for Sheila Jackson Lee’s congressional seat. Turner turnt Houston into a 3rd world city and lied habitually about crime stats through his “one safe” program with manipulated data. Turner’s tenure as Mayor of Houston was a plague on our once great city. He turned Houston into a literal war zone, and our infrastructure has fallen apart. Turner did absolutely nothing to help residents in fifth wards cancer clusters sans the $5 million dollar relocation which did absolutely nothing in my opinion. He released dams which caused absolutely devastation resulting in deaths of constituents in Houston. The former Mayor wreaked havoc on the constituents of Houston.
Mayor Turner’s handlers convinced him to turn Houston into a “smart City” in which has been nothing but turning our great city into a surveillance state with cameras installed at almost every block in the inner city alongside flock cameras.
The money the City of Houston received during COVID lest we say has gone to questionable NGO’s with bank accounts in the Cayman Islands. Rumors have been spread that Turner would advise people who intended to do with business with the city to “donate money to the Greater Houston Community Foundation” which has over a quarter billion of “investments” in tropical islands….
Tuner withheld his cancer diagnosis to his constituents for months.
He defunded our police department, and knew of the 264,000 criminal cases which were put into “suspense” due to lack of police personnel. Most know this was done to take a shot at Kim Ogg’s run as DA.
Turner is a blight to the Houston Community and I can only imagine the damage he would cause to the country as congressman.
In the most recent dustup, an investigation by Houston’s KPRC 2 discovered that city contracts for much-needed water repairs were awarded to two relatives of Houston Public Works (HPW) employee Patrece Lee, including one for $4.5 million to Lee’s brother, who had only created his company six months before the city council approved the “emergency contracts.”
When KPRC reporter Amy Davis attempted to question Turner about the issue at a public event last week, Turner became irate and told his communications director to escort Davis from the room.
In another contract scandal, Houston Landing media reported last week that the Midtown Redevelopment Authority had referred information to law enforcement on a since-fired manager who allegedly steered more than $4 million in taxpayer-funded landscaping contracts to himself and another contractor.
As first reported by Bill King, Turner told President and CEO Michael Heckman that Houston First must pay a $123,979 invoice for the 600 copies, but Heckman refused, saying it was not in the corporation’s budget and not an appropriate expense. Houston First Chairman David Mincberg later told FOX 26 that the corporation would develop a strategy to raise private funds to pay for the books.
HHA has also approved the purchase and construction of a new project at 800 Middle Street on Buffalo Bayou adjacent to land known to be contaminated with lead and other hazardous materials. The project has drawn citations from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and a review from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. Turner has not commented on the project, but his appointed HHA president said the city would work with state agencies to ensure the safety of residents.
Other scandals include a federal investigation into illegal dumping, handling of drinking water emergencies, and the award of a lucrative Hobby Airport contract award to a foreign vendor in lieu of the local Pappas Family restaurants, with the latter issue still pending in state district courts.
