Tennesse Governor Signs Bill Authorizing Death Penalty for Child Rapists

Gov. Bill Lee has approved legislation allowing the death penalty in child rape convictions, a change the Republican-controlled Statehouse championed amid concerns that the U.S. Supreme Court has banned capital punishment in such cases.

Lee, quietly signed off on the legislation last week without issuing a statement.

Governer Lee has followed suit with Florida Governor Ron Desantis who also signed a bill that would allow judges to impose the death penalty when sentencing people convicted of the rape of a child age 12 or under.

The bill, HB 1297, was signed into law on May 2.

It would be nice to see this bill become a national law. Raping children under any circumstance is not ok. I honestly do not know why it has taken this long to enact such bills, but it is happening, and it is sending a signal to pedophiles.

Why is it that only Republican Governors seem to prioritize children’s safety over pedophiles?
