During a Texas House Public Health Committee hearing on April 21, 2025, regarding Rep. Brian Shofner’s bill to make ivermectin available over the counter, State Representative Nicole Collier (D-Fort Worth) engaged in a line of questioning that some viewed as political grandstanding unrelated to the bill’s purpose.

Collier first questioned Dr. Tom Glass, a retired educator and policy analyst supporting the bill, about his stance on abortion, a topic irrelevant to the ivermectin discussion.

She then challenged Dr. Stella Immanuel, an ivermectin advocate, by referencing Immanuel’s past comments on unidentified flying objects and her religious beliefs, taking them out of context in a manner perceived as confrontational.

Many constituents found Collier’s questioning inappropriate, leading to significant backlash. As a result, Collier restricted access to her Twitter account following negative feedback on her approach.
