I think it was nefarious on several levels. Austin seems to be just as corrupt as DC!

No celebration for Dade tonight.

RINO Republicans in the House staged a shit show through their own buffoonery. Secret hearings. Impeachment based on unsworn story-telling. A surprise impeachment vote on the last day of the session. NO opportunity to challenge the accusations. They made clowns out of themselves by not allowing due process.

I won't disagree, Paxton did things he shouldn't have done. He was wrong to do them. Wrong does not equal illegal. I've already exchanged words with another commenter here who is is convinced Paxton broke the law. He's entitled to his own uninformed option. Fact is, the lawyers trying to convict Paxton are not just good, but great lawyers, and they were unable to prove a single instance of breaking the law.

Don't kid yourself. Almost all of those people in both houses and both parties would be exposed to the same if not worse embarrassment if put under the same microscope.

Add to it, this fiasco highlighted how Republicans have a nominal majority in the House, but many "Republicans" vote with Democrats. How else can one explain how so many House Committees are chaired by Democrats?

I agree 100% with SD- a lot of House Republicans need to be primaried.

Paxon isn’t exactly the model for integrity and morality. But as a Republican Attorney General, he’s doing exactly what he should be in fighting the federal government and pushing back on blue cities and counties that are violating the law.

There must be some personal vendetta or one of the big RINO money groups wanted Paxton out of there because it made no sense to force this issue and probably make certain house Republicans walk the plank only to have Paxton stay in office. They’re gonna have to dump a lot of establishment money into these primary races now

It could something as simple as Paxton's shots at Speaker Phelan about Phelan being in an obvious alcoholic stupor while wielding the gavel. Good thing Phelan wasn't doing something important, like driving a truck or something.

I'm going to put some effort into finding out how much campaign money Phelan spreads around. Don't know if that's publicly available information, but if it is, I'll find it. The other element in play- If we had God-like powers to know, I'd bet my paycheck Phelan has said these words privately to more than one Republican House member, "I think you'd make a great Attorney General. If you ran, I'd support you."

It is, go to transparencyusa.org you will see Phelan contributed money from his large campaign fund to many House Republicans. Also look at Texans for Lawsuit Reform, many of them voted for impeachment

Go Ahead! Many thanks SD.

The next question is, who contributed to Phelan?

I do appreciate the lead. I'll be chasing that down.

Lots of house republicans need to be primaried for voting to send the impeachment articles to the Senate

They sent these articles over to the Senate, like it was some sort of open and shut case no doubt about it, and it turned out to be largely big nothing burgers. RINOs
