The Georgia State House voted 167-1 to pass a bill requiring ALL ballots have official watermarks on them to prevent counterfeiting Rep. Steve Tarvin, a Chickamauga Republican, said the watermark is another step toward improving voter confidence after many Georgians questioned the validity of the gubernatorial and presidential elections in recent years. State and local election offices will be able to take advantage of this enhanced feature at a minimal cost, according to bill sponsor Valdosta GOP Rep. John LaHood.
This may make the people think it makes the voting process more secure but unless the machines or people are capable of checking that each ballot has the watermark it is useless. How is it verified that the watermark is present on each and every ballot is the question that must be answered.
Unclear on how this will actually prevent somebody from counterfeiting a watermark. 167-1 seems like a clear indicator that this isn't really a roadblock to fraud.
