The conditions of the jails in Harris County have been an ongoing problem since the court backlog issue began to build up to a 4-year waitlist. Thus, leading to overcrowding in our jails.
The overcrowding has led the county to outsource inmates to several out-of-state correctional facilities, costing the county millions of dollars. $25 million
The county then spent another $3.75 million to outsource prisoners to LaSalle Southwest corrections.

The court backlog is what is causing the overcrowding issues, why won’t the local Democrats approach this issue and fix the root problem?
Newsflash: the County Jail isn't anymore overcrowded now than it was back in the 80's and 90's .
The root of the problem lies squarely on the shoulders of the Republicans cartel back then. It was Commissioner Steve Radack and Sheriff Tommy Thomas who downgraded the jail staff from certified Deputies, who were Texas Peace Officers, to a new low-budget rank called Detention Officers.
